Hong Kong – the Pheebs’ View.

July 7, 2011

The Pheebs has a nice camera – an Olympus SP – 550 UZ.  Her photos are, generally speaking, better than mine.

She also sees the world a bit differently:

PHEEBS:  Look at that!  They’re real!  What are they?

ME: Umm…flowers?

This type of running dialog goes on all day.

PHEEBS:  Wait!  I have to take a picture of the bikes!

ME:  Like we don’t have bikes in bike racks at home?

PHEEBS:  These are Chinese bikes!

ME: uhh…That’s where they’re all made…

I never know what she’s going to take a photo of next.

PHEEBS: (screaming) LOOK!!!

ME: (instantly on guard) What?

PHEEBS:  (Matter-of-factly) Tights!

Don’t stare at ’em too long – they’ll give you a headache.  I know this from personal experience. I found the pseudo Robin Hood getup equally as queasy – but for different reasons.

Then there’s the need to do the whole staged-portrait-shot thing.  If there’s one thing I despise about travel photos – it’s the staged shot.

PHEEBS:  There’s a lion statue!  Go stand over there so’s I can take your picture!

ME: (acting all ignorant) Where?  I don’t see any lion.

PHEEBS:  Over there, dumbass.

ME:  Aww – do I hafta?

PHEEBS:  Just shut up and let me take the picture.

Well, that went as well as can be expected.

She does squeeze off some good shots now and again.

She even figured out how to try on a jade necklace without entering the store.

Her best work, however, is with flowers,

and fish – all available in shops along the streets of Hong Kong.

The Pheebs view of the world is interesting, albeit perplexing.

    Dear Chuck:

I like the picture of the hydra-headed Octo-person… And I liked the yellow bird too. Shots of women in tights have potential, but they have to be a bit more involved.

    Fondest regards,
    Twisted Roads

You’re making the assumption that was a woman…
